Symphony offers free innovative plazacast
Apr 15, 2015Start spreading the news! The Charlotte Symphony will premiere a free outdoor plazacast during its KnightSounds Series concert, A Night In New York. The concert will take place on Friday and Saturday, April 17 and 18, at 7:30 p.m. at Knight Theater at the Levine Center for the Arts.
Grab a chair or blanket and head to the Levine Center for the Arts in Uptown Charlotte as the Symphony morphs the campus into a live concert event. The indoor performances will be presented simultaneously outside on a 16 by 9-foot screen with speakers. Admission to the plazacast is free.
"The plazacast is just one of the many innovative ways the Charlotte Symphony, especially within our KnightSounds Series, is reaching younger audiences and maintaining relevancy within our growing community," says Bob Stickler, president and CEO of the Charlotte Symphony.
Music Director Christopher Warren-Green will conduct the concerts, which will include selections from some of Leonard Bernstein's most popular musicals, including "West Side Story."
Charlotte's own Phillip Bush, who teaches piano and chamber music at the University of South Carolina's School of Music, will play George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue."
Inside the theater, various camera angles will capture onstage action and will be projected onto a large screen above the stage, including close-ups of Maestro Warren-Green, the musicians, and their instruments.
Members of Charlotte Ballet II will join the orchestra onstage for dance selections from "On the Town."
Tickets to attend the show inside Knight Theater cost $29 and include one drink and pre- and post-concert activities.
