Charlotte Symphony evokes the ‘Magic of Christmas’

Dec 20, 2018

It's snowing in Knight Theater.

Charlotte Symphony Orchestra's "Magic of Christmas" runs through Dec. 23 with something different. Not only does host Francene Marie Morris' rendition of "A Visit From Saint Nicholas," more commonly recognized by the poem's opening line of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas," elicit images of sitting before a roaring fire while a favorite relative reads a Christmas classic. The lineup includes customary Christmas carols and "The Nutcracker" score, but also offers a new song.

"The thing that we are most excited about is an original Christmas song written specifically for the city of Charlotte, and in ways that evoke the seasonal things that happen annually throughout the city," said Charlotte Symphony's resident conductor Christopher James Lees.

"Christmastime in Charlotte" was arranged by Emmy-award-winning composer Gary Fry, who gave Chicago "Welcome, Yule!" nearly 30 decades earlier. Lees hopes "Christmastime in Charlotte" will offer a similar sensation here.
