‘On the Corner of:’ Creative collaboration in most unlikely spaces

Unlikely spaces have become hubs for arts activation.

The Beatties Ford Strong project X Charlotte Symphony Orchestra launched a series of pop-ups in June at the Brookhill Community Center. Formally known as "On the Corner of," the afternoon featured Charlotte Symphony Orchestra musicians, led by violinist Jenny Topilow, Charlotte Lab Upper School Head of School and Beatties Ford Strong organizer Ricky Singh, photo-activist Alvin C. Jacobs, Jr., artists Makayla Binter and Infamous Kiddo (Michael Grant), hip hop artist Yung Citizen and DJ Pauly Guwop.

"This is a community that is thriving in spite of everything changing around it," said Jacobs, who shared the story of the Brookhill community in "Welcome to Brookhill," which was featured at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts + Culture.
