Rite of Spring

In April 2018, the Charlotte Symphony performs Igor Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. Christopher Warren-Green, will lead the orchestra for the collaborative performance at the Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7, 2018, in partnership with Charlotte Ballet Artistic Director Hope Muir.

Renowned American choreographer Peter Chu will choreograph a new staging of Rite of Spring, to be danced by students from Charlotte Ballet's nationally recognized Reach dance scholarship program. The evening will open with Charlotte Ballet onstage in Stravinsky's Apollon Musagete.

In the days preceding the performance, American musicologist, musician, scholar, and Harvard University Professor of Music, Thomas Forrest Kelly, will give lectures on the first performance of Rite of Spring at library branches across the Charlotte region.

This massive production marks the start of a new era for the Charlotte Symphony in which the orchestra's artistic excellence is punctuated by innovation and risk-taking. Charlotte Symphony patrons who share this passion for innovation and growth will make this and future programs possible through membership in the Impresario Circle.
